The Soo Greyhounds will have to do without another power forward Justin Bailey for at the minimum two weeks. Bailey, who has 12 goals, 14 assists, 26 points in the 20 games with the Greyhounds , has been diagnosed with two hairline fractures in his right ankle and currently sports a walking boot.

Greyhounds are expecting him to return by mid-March if all goes well. Team physiotherapist Rich Rotenberg says Bailey is ” Feeling pretty good” and very sure it should heal within the two week period.

Soo Greyhounds are also without the likes of Nick Ritchie (Concussion) , Blake Speers (Shoulder), Darnell Nurse (Lower Body), Tyler Ganly (Lower Body).

I would just like to take this time to say goodbye and good lSaultSteMarieuck to those players leaving Sault Ste.Marie and starting a new journey in their hockey careers.

First things first, a lot of people tend to forge that these guys we love to watch are just kids, all under 21, for most of them its a huge learning curve, something different being so far from home and especially all the way up here in the Sault.  Each and every player, now and then, have played their hearts out, and left it on the ice for all of us fans and the coaching staff. With the loss of Nathan Pancel, the Sudbury Wolves went out and acquired Charley GraSudburyaskamp from the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. With the Greyhounds recent additions, Graaskamp had become an expendable asset who obviously held some value. Graaskamp is a native of Eau Claire, WI and had been playing center for the Greyhounds. In parts of two seasons with the Greyhounds, Graaskamp notched 18 points in 41 games with a third of his points coming this season.  (more…)

Kyle Raftis in the last 3 days has acquired some significant pieces to this puzzle we call the Soo Greyhounds, ultimately evening out the depth of the team to compete with both Oshawa Generals and Erie Otters. (more…)

SaultSteMarieThe Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds have acquired Nick Ritchie from the Peterborough Petes in exchange for two players and draft picks. Ritchie is a recent World Junior gold medalist and a Anaheim Ducks first round draft choice. It had become apparent his time in Peterborough was running out back in October when Ritchie was first made available. Ritchie is the most highly sought after player leading up to this Friday’s trade deadline.  (more…)

SaultSteMarieKitchener Rangers RW Justin Bailey was given until the end of Tuesday to make his decision on whether or not he wanted to ride it out in Kitchener or go to Sault Ste. Marie. At around 2:30 in the afternoon he made his decision and informed Rangers GM Murray Hiebert that he’d wish to finish up his OHL career somewhere else.  (more…)
