The 17th place Saginaw Spirit have fired long time head coach, Greg Gilbert, who had been with the Spirit ever since his hiring back in the midst of the 2011-2012. For at least the remainder of the current OHL season, long time hockey personality Moe Mantha will take over on an interim basis behind the Spirit bench. (more…)

The Barrie Colts and the Saginaw Spirit announced that they’ve come together on a trade that sees D Greg DiTomaso & LW Dylan Sadowy head to the Barrie Colts in exchange for D Rocky  Kaura & 11 draft choices. This is getting out of hand.

The Mississauga Steelheads have been looking to trade goaltender Cameron Zanussi for a couple of months now. GM James Boyd made that happen today as he shipped the 1996 born goaltender to the Saginaw Spirit.  (more…)

The Peterborough Petes have completed a trade with the Saginaw Spirit that sees them land Paulsboro, New Jersey native Troy Henley. In exchange, the Spirit receive a 8th round selection in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection. (more…)

The Saginaw Spirit announced the acquisition of Import player Vladislav Kodola from theSaginaw Sarnia Sting. Kodola is a native of Russia and was selected by the Sting in the first round in the #29 spot of the 2013 CHL import draft. By all accounts Kodola had been looking very disinterested in his last few games with the Sting.  (more…)

The Kitchener Rangers confused many, not so much by Kitchener-Rangerstrading away Curtis Meighan to the Ottawa 67’s but the acquisition of OA netminder and highly touted Detroit Red Wings prospect Jake Paterson, that soon followed. This comes just day(s) after trading away key guys in Justin Bailey and Brent Pedersen. Jake Paterson should be able to take the Kitchener Rangers into the playoffs but many don’t see them going much further than the first round.

The Saginaw Spirit had, and still do have just one player card remaining, meaning the Spirit were unlikely to bring in any more bodies in exchange for Paterson.

– 3rd Round Pick (2017)
– 2nd Round Pick (2018)

Not to go unmentioned, the Rangers also sent overage centre Curtis Meighan to the Ottawa 67’s. Meighan is a native of Ottawa, ON which means Meighan will have the chance to finish out his OHL career playing in front of his home crowd.
