The former 2nd overall selection in the 2016 OHL Draft, Owen Lalonde has requested a trade from the Sudbury Wolves. Lalonde, a native of Windsor, scored 2 goals and added 10 assists for 12 points in 64 games for the Wolves last year.

The Guelph Storm announced the selection of defender Ryan Merkley with their 1st Overall Selection in what is actually Saturday’s OHL Draft. The Storm did so at a news conference held at the Sleeman Center on Friday morning.

The Hamilton Bulldogs announced recently that the team has parted ways with longtime franchise GM/Head Coach George Burnett. George had been with the Bulldogs franchise since 2004-2005 back (not that long ago) when the team was known as the Belleville Bulls. (more…)

So long Rolf Nilsen.

The Ontario Hockey League and commissioner David Branch has announced the following sanctions against the Flint Firebirds and owner Rolf Nilsen.

  • Rolf Nilsen be suspended by the OHL from being involved directly or indirectly with hockey operations of the Flint Firebirds for five (5) years effective immediately;
  • The Flint Firebirds forfeit a first round draft pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection (third pick overall);
  • A fine be paid by Rolf Nilsen to the League in the amount of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars ($250,000.00)

The Flint Firebirds have re-fired coaches John Gruden and Dave Karpa. The man who was originally brought in as an advisor to owner Rolf Nilsen will take over Gruden’s former Head Coach/General Manager jobs.  (more…)

The 17th place Saginaw Spirit have fired long time head coach, Greg Gilbert, who had been with the Spirit ever since his hiring back in the midst of the 2011-2012. For at least the remainder of the current OHL season, long time hockey personality Moe Mantha will take over on an interim basis behind the Spirit bench. (more…)

The London Knights and Sarnia Sting engaged in what I would call “Old Time Hockey” at the end of thier game on Sunday at the Budweiser Gardens in London. The fans could sense that things were going to spill over early into the contest and at the 18:39 mark  of the third period everything hit the fan as Sarnia defenceman Kevin Spinozzi jumped London forward Max Jones and it was on.
