The London Knights have announced their acquisiton of the rights to forward Sonny Milano from the Flint Firebirds in exchange for a conditional late round draft pick. Sonny is currently getting his first taste of professional hockey in the AHL with the Lake Erie Monsters.

To London:
– Sonny Milano (Rights)

To Flint:
– 15th Round Pick (Conditional, 2016)

If Milano plays one game in London, that conditional pick turns into a 2nd round pick in 2019 which originally belonged to Sudbury as well as North Bay’s 4th round pick in 2016.

Milano, a native of Massapequa, New York, is currently playing in the American Hockey League with the affiliate to the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Lake Erie Monsters. In 22 games played there, the LW has notched 11 points consisting of 4 goals and 7 assists.

Milano is coming off a World Junior appearance with Team USA where he scored 8 points in 7 games played.

Milano was a 4th round selection by the Plymouth Whalers in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection. He enjoyed his 2014-2015 campaign in Plymouth where he scored 68 points in 50 games played. Milano did not stick around long enough to join the Whalers in their move up the road to Flint, Michigan where the former Plymouth Whaler franchise is currently making their way through their first OHL season as the rebranded Firebirds.

Milano carries to London a boatload of experience including games played at the AHL pro level, Ontario Hockey League junior level as well as USA-U17, u18 & U20 national experience.

Milano was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets 16th overall at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

This is Flint’s first trade made under new General Manager John Gruden.
