In the first large trade of the week leading up to the OHL’s trade deadline, the Hamilton Bulldogs sent overage forward Stephen Harper to the Niagara IceDogs in exchange for young forward Evan Krassey. The deal also sees picks going each way.

To Niagara:
– Stephen Harper
– 7th Round Pick (Barrie, 2016)

To Hamilton:
– Evan Krassey
– 3rd Round Pick (Windsor, 2016)
– 2nd Round Pick (Windsor, 2017)
– 2nd Round Pick (2020)
– 5th Round Pick (Kitchener, 2018)

The Niagara IceDogs had been talking with the Bulldogs about Harper for a couple of weeks now. The Bulldogs were long rumoured to be seeking hometown Hamilton boy Hayden Davis in return. That deal never got done and eventually Hamilton circled back around to Niagara and talks intensified and they landed on forward Evan Krassey as a suitable return.

Krassey, 17, has appeared in 18 games for the Niagara IceDogs this year but the 6’3 200lb steamrolling RW/C has failed to score a point and gone -3 in that span while adding 18 penalty minutes. The native of Atikokan, Ontario will get a chance now to grow with the Hamilton Bulldogs franchise.

Krassey has also played 11 games in the GOJHL Jr. B ranks with the Fort Erie Meteors where he has scored 7 points consisting of 5 goals and 2 assists along with 14 penalty minutes. Krassey was an 8th round selection of the IceDogs in 2014 and is a prospect eligible for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

In Harper, the IceDogs receive an experienced OHL veteran who is currently riding out his last year of OHL eligibility and fighting for a professional contract somewhere next year. Going to a contending team like Niagara certainly won’t hurt those efforts.

A 2012 12 overall selection of the Erie Otters was sent to the Belleville Bulls franchise in November of 2013 in the deal that saw Vancouver Canucks prospect Brendan Gaunce head to the Erie Otters. Harper followed the Belleville Bulls franchise in their move to Hamilton at the end of the 2014-2015 season.

In 292 games played for the Burlington, Ontario native centerman, Harper has scored 198 points consisting of 88 goals and 110 assists. Well what have you done for me recently? Harper has scored 41 points in 36 games played for the Hamilton Bulldogs so far this year.
