Konecny, a native of nearby Clachan, Ontario heads to Sarnia following not only two weeks of a World Junior tournament where he stood out to many, but also a week of rampid rumours swirling back home in Ontario. Many of which, involved Konecny’s name.

In 29 games played for the 67’s this year, the Philadelphia Flyers prospect by way of the 1st round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft has scored 45 points consisting of 7 goals and 38 assists. Konecny was the OHL’s 1st overall selection in 2013, the same draft that featured the likes of Dylan Strome, Lawson Crouse, Mitchell Stephens, and Mitchell Marner.

Travis has a real opportunity to make the NHL next year in Philadelphia but there is however a chance he returns to the OHL and that is why there are multiple conditional picks headed to Ottawa.

Also headed to Sarnia, in what may officially be jotted up as a separate trade is overage forward Sam Studnicka. The 67’s were in a situation where they needed to trade an overager and Studnicka would bring the best return, so as a result, he was the odd man out. Not that it’s a bad thing as he now gets to join a powerhouse Sting team who will without a doubt be right up there with the contenders.

Studnicka, 6’01 and 205lbs, has scored 26 points in 31 games played so far this year with the 67’s. Sam is currently a free agent at the NHL and enjoying his final year of OHL eligibility.

Sarnia now has an overage situation on their hands brought on by Studnicka’s acquisition. This will quickly be resolved by the parting of ways with Davis Brown.

For the 67’s, they needed to make these moves and start looking towards the future. No sense in sitting on assets such as Konecny/Studnicka when the team isn’t among the top contenders this year. So with framework in place, they sent a couple of scouts to take in the Sarnia Sting game in London on December 31st.

Headed to Ottawa in the other “half” of the blockbuster trade are young forwards Sasha Chmelevski and Chase Campbell.

Chmelevski, a first round pick (10th overall) of the Sarnia Sting in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection joins the 67’s with 17 points consisting of 9 goals and 8 assists in 29 games played. The native of Northville, Michigan is a prospect eligible for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Chase Campbell, a native of Waterloo, Ontario joins the 67’s with 3 points in 30 games played over parts of two seasons with the Sarnia Sting. Chase was a 3rd round selection of the Sting in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.
