The Barrie Colts and Saginaw Spirit came together on a trade that sees 1997 import goaltender David Ovsjannikov head to the Barrie Colts. The move comes shortly after the Spirit acquired Cameron Zanussi from the Mississauga Steelheads.

To Barrie:
 David Ovsjannikov

To Saginaw:
– 7th Round Pick (2018)

Ovsjannikov, a native of Plzen, Czech Republic was drafted by the Spirit in the 5th round of the 2013 OHL Priority Selection out of Oakland Jr. Grizzlies program and is therefore not considered an import player.

Including a 2013-14 season in which Ovsjannikov dressed in one game for the Spirit, the 6’6 goaltender is playing in his 3rd OHL season. In 9 games for the Spirit this season Ovsjannikov has managed to accumulate a goals against average of 4.26 with a save percentage of .873
