The Mississauga Steelheads have been looking to trade goaltender Cameron Zanussi for a couple of months now. GM James Boyd made that happen today as he shipped the 1996 born goaltender to the Saginaw Spirit.

To Saginaw:
– Cameron Zanussi
– 4th Round Pick (2018)

To Mississauga:
– Joseph Murdaca
– 8th Round Pick (2018)

If my sources are correct, Zanussi requested a trade out of Mississauga approximately two months ago. In exchange the Steelheads were always looking for a 1997 born goaltender who could take the reigns from overage goaltender Jack Flinn for next season.

While 1998 born Joseph Murdaca is not that 1997 born goaltender the Steelheads were/are looking for, the 2014 10th round selection of the Saginaw Spirit appears to be ready to take the next step to the Mississauga Steelheads in time for next year. Currently Murdaca is suiting up for the Frank Pietrangelo coached Niagara Falls Canucks of the GOJHL where he’s boasted a 3.09 GAA with a .906 save percentage.

Cameron Zanussi, who now heads to the Saginaw Spirit is currently riding out his 2nd year in the OHL. In three games played this year for the Steelheads, Zanussi carries a goals against average of 3.38 and a dismal save percentage of .860. Zanussi has one more year of OHL eligibility after 2015-16.
