The Sudbury Wolves and Owen Sound Attack came together on a trade involving two defenders. Heading to Owen Sound is Trent Bourque while 6’09 tower Jarett Meyer heads to Sudbury.

To Sudbury:
Jarret Meyer
– 5th Round Pick (Conditional, 2018)

To Owen Sound:
– Trent Bourque

Jarett Meyer, as mentioned, stands 6’09 and weighs a solid 210lbs. He attended Detroit Red Wings prospect tournament as an invite. A free agent signing of the Attack back in 2014, Meyer has 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points in 28 games played this season for the Owen Sound Attack. Meyer has one more season of OHL eligibility remaining. Meyer, who would not comment much on his move did had to waive his no trade clause to go to Sudbury.

Trent Bourque, a 6’2/190lbs defender and native to Burlington, ON was selected by the Wolves in the 3rd round, 51stoverall in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. Bourque, 17, has 3 years of OHL eligibility remaining after this year. Having played 24 games this season for the Wolves, Bourque has registered  2 assists. Last season, in 34 games played Bourque managed to notch one assist.

Do not let stats confuse you! One could argue Bourque was misused in Sudbury and let one thing be known, the Owen Sound Attack would have loved to nab Trent Bourque back in his draft year. In turning focus to he next couple of years, the Attack have managed to not only grab some more youth, but also nab a player they’ve enjoyed since day one.

For Bourque and Meyer, the trade is a fresh start. Jarett Meyer is fighting for a professional contract and felt his chances would be improved elsewhere while Trent Bourque is looking to turn some heads in his NHL draft year.
