The Peterborough Petes have announced their acquisition of Sarnia Sting captain Daniel Nikandrov. In exchange the Sting receive two draft picks from the disappointing to date, Peterborough Petes.

To Peterborough:

  • Daniel Nikandrov

To Sarnia:

  • 3rd Round Draft Pick (SSM-2017)
  • 5th Round Draft Pick (HAM-2017)

Daniel Nikandrov, Center, has played parts of 5 OHL seasons and is currently riding out his final season of junior hockey. He has played all of these years in Sarnia with the Sting after being selected in the 4th round, 68th overall in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection.

So far this season, Nikandrov has scored 4 goals and 4 assists for 8 points in 13 games played. In 2014-2015 Nikandov had his most productive season which saw him register 49 points consisting of 16 goals and 33 assists.

Nikandrov joins the Petes who currently sit 14th in the league with a record of 7 wins, 9 losses, 1 OT loss and 2 shootout losses. The Petes are in desperate need of immediate special teams help, and Nikandrov’s production and faceoff ability will certainly help the Petes in that area.

For the Sting, moving Nikandrov out opens up yet another overage spot which they can choose to, or not to fill in the coming weeks. The Sting are looking for a goaltender and the rumoured Fazio for Nichols swap appears to have been nixed by the the Guelph Storm as they would like to see more of a return than what Sarnia is apparently willing to offer. Rumblings today would see the Sarnia Sting acquire overager Matt Mistele from the Oshawa Generals. Certainly today’s move opens up both the roster space and the overage spots to acquire Mistele and a goaltender, whether or not Nichols is that guy, remains to be seen. Not to mention the deal also provides the Sting with two more draft picks they can flip in later trades.
