The Mississauga Steelheads announced they’ve acquired overage goaltender, Jack Flinn from the Owen Sound Attack in exchange for forward Bryson Cianfrone and a 5th round pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.

Barring a Spencer Martin return, the move allows for Flinn to play in a situation where he will be the go-to guy in the net for the Steelheads. For the Attack, the move allows for Michael McNiven to run with the starting netminder job in Owen Sound. McNiven, fresh off a training camp invite in the NHL with Montreal impressed so much that he earned himself an entry level contract with the Canadiens.

Jack Flinn, fresh off an invite to the Los Angeles Kings training camp, stands 6’8 and hails from Halifax, Nova Scotia posted a GAA of 2.99 with a Save percentage of 0.908 last season as the go to guy for the Owen Sound Attack.

Bryson Cianfrone was the main piece heading from Mississauga to Owen Sound. Known primarily for his role in the fight that saw Connor McDavid break his hand, Cianfrone quietly notched 52 points in 63 games for the Steelheads last season.

Shortly after the trade was completed, the Attack also acquired goaltender Alex Dokoning from the Erie Otters in exchange for an 11th round pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection. It was clear Dekoning was not in the Otters plans for this season, he’ll join the Attack where he’ll provide some much needed depth in the Attack net.
