Shortly after it was announced on Saturday that 2016 NHL Draft prospect Alex Nylander has joined the Mississauga
Steelheads, the Steelheads also announced that they have persuaded Michael Nylander to join James Boyd on the bench as an assistant coach for this season.

Michael spent parts of 18 seasons playing pro hockey in North America including stints with the Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks and the Tampa Bay Lightning. So when it came time for the Steelheads to gain approval from the league to have Nylander coach over here, it was likely a no brainer for the league.

With his elder son William in Toronto trying to make the Maple Leafs and now Alex in Mississauga spending the season with the Steelheads, the move comes at the right time for Michael. Not to mention the much needed coaching and experience Nylander will bring to the bench in Mississauga.

The Steelheads are a young team, but loaded with some of the best potential in the league. Sean Day, Michael McLeod, Ryan McLeod, Owen Tippett, Alex Nylander, to name a few will benefit greatly from the addition of Michael Nylander to the Steelheads bench.

The Steelheads will be a treat to watch this season!
