SaultSteMarieFor the first time all season the Soo Greyhounds were pushed to extra time, but no one is to blame but the Soo Greyhounds themselves. After a good start, and an amazing 2nd period, the Greyhounds fell into a 3rd period slump.

Although no goals were scored in the first, just 2:36 into the 2nd period Dante Salituro opened up the scoring giving the Ottawa 67s the lead early on , but that wouldn’t stand very long after a defensive failure by the 67s on a delayed penalty finds Charley Grasskamp  on as the extra attack and sneaking into the zone and sniping one past Herbst.

Tim Gettinger would follow up on that goal with a nice move to cut into the slot and sneak one past Herbt to make it 2-1 going into the second period.

Jeff Brown must have gave his squad a pep talk and a half because just 1 minute and 34 seconds in, a eager Trent Mallette sneaks in front of Halverson and Studnicka sets him up with a beautiful goal to even it up and score against his former team, and it didnt stop there.  Two minutes later Travis Konecny would give his 67s the lead again making it 3-2. At the 8:46 mark the Plantation, Florida native Gabe Guertler would put the puck past Herbst to even out the game once again and ultimately send the Greyhounds to their first overtime period of the season, and who better to get the game winner than the Doc himself, with an absolutely rocket of  a wrist shot , Darnell Nurse snipes one past Herbst at the 4:06 mark of overtime to extend the Greyhounds winning streak to 8 games!

The Hounds will be taking a rest day today, but back on the ice tommorow when they take on the Kingston for a 2:00PM game! Sault fans can catch that one live on Shaw TV ( Channel 10) or on the radio with Gerry Liscumb Jr on ROCK 101.3 ( ).
